Venus line
Also known as: Venus lines, Venus on the DSC, Venus on the ASC
In astrocartography, a Venus line marks the places on Earth where, at the moment of your birth, Venus was culminating (MC), beneath your feet (IC), rising (ASC) or setting (DSC).
In a birth chart Venus describes relationships, pleasure, beauty, a sense of worth and what attracts us. On an astrocartography map its lines are among the most often checked: tradition counts them, together with the lines of the Sun, Moon and Jupiter, among those usually read as supportive. Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, so its lines run at a moderate distance from the Sun's lines.
Venus on the MC is associated with success through charm, art and relationships — with work in which aesthetics, contact with people or diplomacy matter. In the Intention Travel goal table it is a main line for "Visibility" and "Finances and a sense of security", and in the Western variant for "Career" too.
Tradition links Venus on the IC with a cosy home, harmony in the family and everyday pleasures. It is a main line for both the "Holiday and rest" and the "Home and stability" goals — a place that feels good to live in, not just to visit.
Venus on the ASC is a line of charm, gentleness and a sense of being liked by the people around you. It is often described as a place where it is easier to look after yourself, your appearance and your pleasures without guilt. In the goal table it is a main line for "Creativity", "Love" and "Holiday and rest".
Venus on the DSC is probably the best-known line in astrocartography. Tradition links it with love, romance and good partnerships; near this line encounters come to the fore more easily, and relationships — romantic, friendly and professional — take up more space. Keep in mind that a line describes a theme, not a particular person or event: it speaks of openness to relationships, not of whom you might meet somewhere.
Venus, called Shukra in Vedic astrology, appears on both the Western and the Vedic map with the same lines, because the lines do not depend on the zodiac. In Jyotish, Shukra is the graha of relationships, beauty, art and comfort, so its lines read very similarly in both systems. In the Vedic goal table Venus does not appear under career, but it stays under visibility, finances, love and home.
Venus lines are worth comparing with places where important encounters happened, or with places that have long drawn you in. Closeness is read in three bands: up to 150 km very close, up to 300 km close and up to 600 km within the wider band of the line. Venus has a shadow too: comfort that lulls, or a tendency to seek harmony at any price. A Venus line is not a promise of love in a given city — it invites the question of what you look for in relationships, and whether this place helps you open up to it.
