Jupiter line

Also known as: Jupiter lines, Jupiter on the MC, Jupiter on the ASC

In astrocartography, a Jupiter line marks the places on Earth where, at the moment of your birth, Jupiter was culminating (MC), beneath your feet (IC), rising (ASC) or setting (DSC).

In a birth chart Jupiter stands for growth, meaning, learning, travel, opportunity and goodwill. Tradition counts its lines on an astrocartography map — together with those of the Sun, Moon and Venus — among the ones usually read as supportive, and people often look for them first. It is worth remembering Jupiter's other side, though: excess, too much optimism and a tendency to take on too much at once.

Jupiter on the MC is associated with professional growth, opportunity and a good name. In the Intention Travel goal table it is a main line for "Career" and "Finances and a sense of security", and in the Western variant for "Visibility" as well. It is often read as a place where mentors, promotion or a sense that work has a wider meaning come more easily.

Tradition links Jupiter on the IC with a spacious, welcoming home and trust in life. It is a main line for the "Home and stability", "Finances and a sense of security", "Holiday and rest" and "Spiritual growth" goals. A home near this line is often described as open to others — a place where it is easy to welcome guests and to rest yourself.

Jupiter on the ASC is a line of optimism, generosity of spirit and an appetite for new experiences. It is often described as a place where it is easier to believe in what you can do and to start afresh — which is why it is one of the main lines for "A new beginning" and "Holiday and rest".

Jupiter on the DSC is associated with kind partners, mentors and supportive encounters. In the goal table it is a main line for "Love" and "Connections": relationships near this line are often described as generous and horizon-widening, sometimes with a teacher or with someone from another culture.

Jupiter, called Guru or Brihaspati in Vedic astrology, appears on both the Western and the Vedic map with the same lines, because they do not depend on the zodiac. In Jyotish it is the graha of the teacher, wisdom and good fortune, regarded as the most benefic, so its lines are read similarly in both traditions. In Intention Travel, Jupiter's transits to the planet of a line also open the most heavily weighted time windows: when transiting Jupiter forms a conjunction, sextile or trine with it.

Jupiter lines are worth checking against places where something opened up for you: studies, a first job, an important journey. Closeness is read in three bands: up to 150 km very close, up to 300 km close and up to 600 km within the wider band of the line. Jupiter does not promise happiness in any city — it points to where tradition sees more room, and asks what you want to build in that room.
