Nakshatra

A nakshatra is one of the 27 "lunar mansions" — segments Vedic astrology divides the zodiac belt into, each spanning 13°20′, with its own symbolism and ruling planet.

The nakshatra the Moon occupies at birth is considered one of the most detailed and personal indicators in a Vedic chart — it's also the starting point for calculating the dasha system.
