Vimshottari Dasha

Vimshottari Dasha is the most commonly used dasha system, dividing life into periods totaling 120 years, ruled in turn by nine planets (including Rahu and Ketu), each with a different number of years.

The starting point for the calculation is the Moon's nakshatra at birth — it determines which planet's period the cycle begins with and when. Each major period further splits into sub-periods (antardasha) ruled by the other planets.
