Astrological house

Astrological houses are the twelve segments that divide a birth chart, each governing a different area of life — such as relationships, career, or home.

While a sign describes "how" something happens and a planet "what" happens, a house shows "where" — which area of life a given energy shows up in most strongly. Houses are counted from the ascendant, moving clockwise.

Several house-division systems exist (Placidus, whole-sign, and others), which can place the same birth data into slightly different house boundaries.
