Ayanamsha

Ayanamsha is the angular value (currently about 24 degrees) by which the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology is offset from the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology.

This gap widens over time due to the precession of the equinoxes — the slow drift of the spring equinox point along the ecliptic, completing a cycle roughly every 26,000 years. The most commonly used ayanamsha value is the Lahiri ayanamsha, officially adopted in India as the calculation standard.
