Uranus line

Also known as: Uranus lines, Uranus on the MC, Uranus on the ASC

In astrocartography, a Uranus line marks the places on Earth where, at the moment of your birth, Uranus was culminating (MC), beneath your feet (IC), rising (ASC) or setting (DSC).

In a birth chart Uranus describes change, independence, innovation, rebellion and surprise. Tradition reads its lines on an astrocartography map as demanding — not because they bring something bad, but because calm and predictability are hard to come by near them. Some find that refreshing, others tiring. So Uranus lines are best read through a question: how much change and freedom do you need at this stage of your life?

Uranus on the MC is associated with an unconventional career path, innovation and sudden turns. It is often described as a place for work in new technologies, self-employment or a non-standard role — and as a place where a career may change direction faster than planned. In the Intention Travel goal table it is a demanding line for "Visibility" and for "Finances and a sense of security".

Uranus on the IC is a place where home life may be unsettled, but also free of old patterns. Frequent moves, an unusual way of living, home as a base camp rather than a nest. In the goal table it is a demanding line for "Home and stability".

Uranus on the ASC is associated with a sense of freedom, experiment and surprising changes within yourself. It is often described as a line where it is easier to break with what no longer fits — and harder to sit still. In the goal table it is a demanding line for "Creativity", "Holiday and rest" and "A new beginning".

Tradition links Uranus on the DSC with unconventional relationships and a need for space within them. Encounters can be sudden and surprising, and relationships less predictable. In the goal table it is a demanding line for "Connections".

Uranus appears only on the Western map. Vedic astrology works with the seven grahas visible to the naked eye plus Rahu and Ketu, so a Vedic map does not draw Uranus lines. Uranus moves slowly — it takes about 84 years to go round the zodiac — so people born around the same time have it in a similar part of the sky, and the course of its lines is decided mainly by the birth time and the turning of the Earth. In Intention Travel, Uranus's transits to the planet of a line create only demanding windows.

Uranus lines are worth checking against places where a sudden change happened, or where a sense of freedom appeared. Closeness is read in three bands: up to 150 km very close, up to 300 km close and up to 600 km within the wider band of the line. A Uranus line does not announce upheaval. It shows where tradition sees more movement and awakening, and asks whether you are looking for change or for stability right now.
